This Saturday Brisbane's Craft Community will be celebrating the launch of a new non-profit venture, The Nest. The Nest will be hosting a full day of sustainable craft workshops at West End's Boundary Street Markets. The celebrations will include 3 sessions of recycled paper making, upcycling jars into beautiful painted Christmas lanterns and as the sun sets lanterns will be lit to celebrate this new beginning.

The Nest is a space for women and girls from all backgrounds and across all generations to come together to create, nurture and form friendships through art and craft workshops, social meetings and community events. Founder, Roz Fenson said, "This is an exciting and important development in Brisbane's craft scene which will have a significant impact across the wider Brisbane community. There has never been a more important time for the community to get together in an environment that encourages creativity, has a nurturing atmosphere and instills confidence in young girls and women. There has been a need for a safe place where women and girls are able to bond with each other, exchange advice and support each other - a place where generational blending has the opportunity to flourish".

Roz and co-founders, Rebecca Cason and Jodie Behn are all busy women. During the week Roz helps her husband run his "Hire a Hubby" business in Ashgrove and on weekends gives her time to The Nest. Rebecca has a busy career, working in The Arts full time and also giving her time on weekends to this project. Jodi has a wealth of experience working with children in the community and has a love of working with sustainable products. It seems that The Nest is in very capable hands - hands that just can't keep still and need to be creating!

As a non profit organisation The Nest hopes to access funding, enabling it to make craft more accessible to the wider community and provide more accessible creative development opportunities Brisbane-wide. There is a handmade revolution sweeping Brisbane and craft is on the increase - we now need to make it more sustainable.

Come along and help celebrate the beginning of something very special this Saturday. Recycled paper making workshops will run at 10am, 11.30am and 1pm. The jar painting workshop will begin at 3pm, before celebrations begin at 5pm (why not bring your drinks, nibblies and the picnic rug and enjoy the sunset!). You will find The Nest workshops on the front entrance lawn, near the train. Bookings for workshops are essential at www.thecraftnest.net.

If you'd like to become a member at The Nest, membership details will be announced at the launch on Saturday. If you're still looking for Christmas gift ideas, you may be interested to know that gift vouchers for classes and workshops at The Nest are available - see the website for details. More information about The Nest and future workshops can also be found on the website and Facebook page.
