There's one thing you can be assured that will be on on any given weekend and that is markets. One of the longest running and most notable markets would be the Red Hill craft market run by Craft Markets Australia, but what you may not know is have many successful markets all under the one umbrella.

There is no longer the need to drive long distances or wait a month to stock up on produce, the stall holders are now coming closer to you.

Markets include:

Mornington Craft Market held at the Mornington Racecourse on the second Sunday of each month between 9am till 2pm. Car parking is $3 per car. There are two special twilight markets.

Flemington Craft Market held at the Flemington Racecourse on the 4th Sunday of each month, except in September when it's held on the 15th due to horse races. A twilight market is held in November.

Red Hill Craft Market is held between September to May at the Red Hill Recreation Reserve on the first Saturday of the month between 8am-1pm. Car parking is $4.

Yarra Glen Craft Market will be recommencing at the Yarra Glen Racecourse after a few years break, the first market back is on the first Sunday of October from 9am-2pm and will run between October and June. A twilight market will be held on the 14th of December.

Hanging Rock Craft Market is held at different times throughout the year with the next markets being October 27th and March 16th 2014 and will be held between 10am- 3pm. Car parking is $5 per car.

Portsea Craft Market is held in the pristine national park of Point Nepean at different times of the year. The next markets will be on the 24th of November and the 19th of January 2014 with the markets being held between 10am-3pm. Car parking is $5 per car.

For people not familiar with these craft markets here's a short overview. All stall holders within the market have to either have made the product, baked it, grown it, sewn it. The markets are very popular with expecting couples, couples with young children, girl's day out shopping, boys being convinced by their wives, probably easier to say everyone because that's exactly who turns up.

Stalls vary between hot food, fruit and vegetables, jams and preserves, cakes and pies, beer and wine, kids' clothing, art works, ceramics, furniture, plants and flowers, sheepskins and ugg boots, dog leads and dog beds, jewellery, soaps and moisturisers, gift cards and Christmas decorations, animal farm and painting, nursery accessories and pram liners. I could go on forever with most of the markets averaging over 300 stalls each.

It's a great place to look for gifts for the person that has everything and you know you're giving them something hand made and unique.

When you're at the markets, a visit to this cake stall is a must, make sure you try the pies. Yum.
