If you are travelling to the Cradle Mountain and would like to get a true country cottage experience complete with real winter wood fire, then head to for a short winter weekend escape.

accommodation is set on ten acres of natural Tasmanian bushland and is located only a short drive from the World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain National Park.

It has won Trip Advisor's Certificate of Excellence last year, making it an ideal accommodation base for any Tasmanian outdoor adventure holiday.

What attract us to this place is the rustic fairytale-like country timber cottages. There are sixteen rustic timber self-contained cabins on the property and each cabin is individually designed and hand-built with natural timber to provide that secluded mountain chalet style accommodation to complement the spectacular mountain and rainforest scenery. The cabins are built apart from one another to ensure guests' peace and privacy.

When we arrived at Cradle Mountain Highlander, we were warmly greeted by Brad and his team. We asked for a double cabin and we got the "Woodsmoke" cabin. When we entered our cabin we were delighted to see the wood fire was already lit for us!

The Woodsmoke cabin is built just for two with a warm cosy kitchen/lounge area, a separate bedroom with handmade Queen sized timber bed (complete with electric blankets) and a private ensuite bathroom.

It contained all the modern necessities, such as flat screen TV with DVD player, a well-equipped kitchenette and electric towel railings.

We were informed prior arrival that shopping was very limited in the Cradle Mountain wilderness area. So we purchased two nights worth of groceries and fresh food so we could cook in our cabin. This allowed us to fully relax after a hard day of trekking in the mountains.

We cooked our own dinners and they turned out pretty good. We absolutely loved the wood fire and the cosiness of the whole atmosphere.

We snuggled up by the wood burning fire, enjoyed a nice glass of wine and reflected deeply in the tranquility of the moment. We had such peaceful sleeps in our Woodsmoke cabin. The mountain was truly beautiful first thing in the morning.

We paid $165 per night for a comfortable cabin to relax in after a long day of outdoor activities in the Mountains. Bear in mind, the rooms aren't ultra-modern or luxurious like in a 5-star hotel and you do not get room services here, but Brad and his team are only a phone-call away for any emergencies, so you won't get the feeling of being stranded or isolated in midst of the rainforest.

The only negative aspect I could find was the 50MB wifi limit and the poor phone reception, but then, you are in the mountains; throw away the city habits of constantly needing to be on FB or Twittering!

All in all, it really was a wonderful place to recharge the batteries and escape the city for a while.
