The Yeppoon Foreshore will come alive again this year for the annual CQ University Village Festival. Yeppoon is the place to be from Friday 10th August through to Sunday 12th August where music, arts and cultural celebrations come together in a vibrant mix in the performance of visual arts, children's festivities, street theatre, music, workshops, food and market stalls.

Until 2013, the festival was conceived and managed by Keppel Coast Arts Council, however, due to increased popularity, the event's growth provided the opportunity for the festival to be incorporated as The Capricorn Village Festival Ltd. In 2014, the event moved to the coast and town of Yeppoon with the major naming right sponsor of CQ University. Major partners for the event are Livingstone Shire Council , Tourism & Events Queensland, JTR and Strand Hotel , Yeppoon.

Events will be held along the foreshore, The Strand Hotel, Rosslyn Bay Resort , Beaches Restaurant, Queen Street Community Hall , Yeppoon Town Hall, The Waterline Restaurant, Keppel Bay Marina and Yeppoon RSL . The event is free to the public, however, there are some artist's shows that are ticketed. Be sure to download the programme, which gives you the names of all the artists appearing over the weekend in all venues mentioned above.

As a Country Music fan, I noticed that the 2018 Tamworth Music Festival's New Talent Brad Butcher will be playing at Keppel Bay Marina on Saturday 11th August from 2 to 4 pm. This is a ticketed event. You can contact the venue for more information on 07 4933 6244.

Sara Storer , who has won several Golden Guitar Female Artist of the Year, is performing on Saturday 12th August at the Yeppoon Foreshore along with Aria Nominees "[LINK=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Wilson_Pickers]The Wilson Pickers".

[/LINK]Headline act on Saturday evening is " The Whitlams ", who are celebrating their 25-year anniversary. The band formed in 1992 but it was not until 1997 that they had their first breakthrough. In 1998 at the Aria Awards they won "Best Group", "Song of the Year" and "Best Independent Release" for their third album – Eternal Nightcap.

Each year, young artists approach Beaches Sunday Mario's Sizzling Parilla wishing to entertain there. Beaches Got Talent has provided them with the opportunity to do so, with the winner of the Grand Final performing on the Main Stage on the Saturday evening of the festival. They also feature live on Triple M Radio Breakfast Show. The Grand Final is conducted on Friday night 11th August at Beaches.

You may remember Jay Laga'aia from Home and Away or from one of his many other acting successes. Jay is also a gifted musician and has written and recorded albums with ABC for children. Currently airing on 7TWO, Jay is in his third season of Jay's Jungle. Jay will also be performing on Saturday at Yeppoon Foreshore.

Guitar and Ukelele Workshops will be held on Saturday at 11.30am and 1.00pm respectively in the Queen Street Community Hall.

The list of performers over the three days of entertainment is too long to name here, however, you can download the programme from their website. This will give you the time and place where your favourite artists will be playing. A map for the event is also located in the programme.

Also, on Saturday, a Beach Art Exhibition will be conducted down on the beach at Yeppoon with huge spirals and symbols being up to 30 metres in size. The only paint brushes for the artists will be garden rakes and the canvas will be the beach. Artists will be working fast to create their designs before the next high tide washes them away.

If you are looking for accommodation in Yeppoon or Rockhampton, you can telephone the Capricorn Coast Visitor Information Centre on 1800 675 785 for advice. Yeppoon is 34 minutes or 40.2 kilometres drive from Rockhampton. This is definitely a weekend event not to be missed.
