Melbourne is definitely the city of culture, and in Melbourne (and all fellow Melburnians can vouch for this) there is never a dull moment in our city. Just rocked up to Melbourne Central to have some lunch, and the next minute the heats are on to see who can eat the most prawn wontons in four minutes; and yes they are full prawns in each cup of wonton as well. Welcome to the CP Biggest Eater Competition. The finals are on next weekend, and apparently so far today (at the time of writing this, the heats end at 6pm today, so roughly four hours to go) the record number of prawn wontons eaten in a four minute period is 62. Good for them, I am lucky to be able to eat two in that same time, and other slow eaters would sing to that chorus.
This event is also held in Singapore, Hong Kong and Bangkok; so Melbourne is the only Australian and non-Asian city to hold this annual event.
Okay so you have McHappy Day going on today (as at the time of writing this) and of course this event. There is a fair amount of love going on in Melbourne Central right now. What is really cool, is that $1 is being donated to Youth Projects for every prawn wonton eaten.
The crowds got distracted from their shopping, and watched those competitors overeat to some degree. So the record is currently 62 prawn wontons eaten in four minutes at this event; yet at other events like this one, the record amount of Mars bars (full 60-gram size) eaten in a 10-minute period was 38.
