The Cove Tavern is your standard suburban pub, located by the Shopping Centre at Hallett Cove. It's quite large, with a saloon bar, a lounge bar, fully equipped with casino style carpet and mounted plasma screens broadcasting the latest sporting events for all the locals to yell at while spilling their pints of West End Draught. You know the type.
But don't be fooled by the usual expectations of your typical suburban pub. The food prepared in their open-style kitchen is in a class of its own. Whether it's chicken, beef or seafood, each cuisine is cooked to perfection and you'll think you're in a 5-star restaurant opposed to your friendly local.
The serving sizes are generous, each with their little touch of heaven. I recommend the crispy skinned Atlantic salmon and the char grilled Kangaroo fillets.
The salmon is served on a layer of creamy mashed potato with baby spinach and topped with a tangy hollandaise sauce and fresh avocado.
If you're not salivating yet, get your teeth into the kangaroo. The char grilled fillets are cooked medium rare, served on a bed of crushed sweet potato and finished with a cranberry and juniper berry glaze. It doesn't get any better than this. For those who think they don't like kangaroo, be sure to give this a try. You may very well be converted.
