Spending my Tuesday dealing with what I thought was the dreary and mundane business of paying bills at the Government Business Precinct Customer Service Centre at Carseldine, suddenly got more interesting when I found the Cove Catering Café in Beams Road. Cove is located where some may remember the site as the former QUT campus at Carseldine where I recall students (many of whom went on to be teachers) meandering to classes and lecture theatres. Today, the Cove Café occupies a corner of the Ground Floor area beside the Customer Service Centre.

Food selections at the Carseldine cafe include burgers, gourmet sandwiches and wraps with a focus on fresh, tasty and healthy food. More substantial lunch offerings include Thai green curry with jasmine rice, topless roast chicken with minted potatoes and broccoli and lamb and pea pasties with potatoes and vegetables.
While I visited as a party of one, I learnt that catering for corporate, Government and community functions is where Cove excel. The team at Cove has over 20 years experience specialising in catering to larger groups (from 10 or 500) like mine workers at remote sites, to academics and students on campuses, and cast and crew on TV and film sets. Sample menus (for corporate events) are available here.
The setting I grabbed my Di Bella coffee and sat in the expansive outdoor area. The orange and white striped deck chairs, fake grass and umbrellas at the front of the shop give a relaxed, almost beach-like feel which warmed the space from the concrete buildings. The Mańana Bar means that Cove is licenced and serves beer, cider, spirits and wine which came as a surprise.
