Couverture & Co. - Chocolatier
Don't you just love it when on an ordinary, everyday errand, you make a discovery that turns the mundane into extraordinary. This was my experience today when en-route to another shop I discover the newly opened
Couverture & Co., an exciting new chocolatier in Red Hill. Located on Enogerra Terrace, just down from the intersection with Musgrave Road, this little shop has a window full of sweet treats just ready to tempt the most discerning chocolate lover.
Only open for a week when I discovered them, the proprietor, Jessica Brooks, was very happy to ask for feedback on the recipies. Judging by the way the entire family devoured these sweet treats, there was little room for improvement. Favourites included
Peppermint Creams in milk or dark chocolate,
Raspberry ganache (also in milk or dark) and
Hazelnut ganache - all received the "thumbs up".
For those with more mature tastebuds, selections such as the
Salted Caramel, with salt from the Murray River Region,
Orange and Poppy Seed, a white chocolate ganache with orange zest and poppy seeds in dark chocolate - Yum, and
Fresh Dates filled with coffee ganache or candied orange double coated in dark chocolate were quickly consumed. At $2.50 a chocolate, I thought they were quite reasonable for a unique, hand-made chocolate experience.
The chocolates are made from Belgian Callebaut chocolate, which has been in production in Wieze, Belgium since 1911 and is noted as "the world's biggest chocolatier" in "The Gnomes of Cocoa" by Richard Morais. Most of the chocolates were gluten-free. It was actually their gluten-free advertisement on the window that caused me to enter the shop, certainly not a desire to buy chocolate - I promise. I look forward to seeing what this shop will evolve into as it grows in popularity and establishes itself on the sweet-treat scene in Brisbane.
