Having read mixed reviews and hearing about the multiple changes of ownership this place has undergone in the past few years, it was fair enough to admit that we weren't too sure what would have in store for us. But, having scored a $50 Groupon voucher for two people including a return ferry ride to and from the resort, use of all resort facilities, free non-motorised water sports and all day bicycle hire, we figured we didn't have much to lose. And wow, were we in for a surprise!

is situated on South Stradbroke Island and can be accessed by a 35-minute ferry ride which departs from Hope Island on the mainland. South Stradbroke lies within Moreton Bay and the tip forms the Northern end of the Gold Coast which is only meters away from Southport Spit. In comparison to its sister island North Stradbroke, South Stradbroke is fairly undeveloped hence its tropical bushlands and pristine beaches provide an uncrowded and relaxing get away. The resort itself is located on the waterfront and offers breathtaking views.

Due to the vast size of land that occupies, there is an unbelievable array of recreational activities on offer. The best activity in our opinion would have to be the bike hire. The bike tracks are well set up around the island giving you plenty of opportunities to explore. Be sure to take a ride through the bushland to the east side where you'll be greeted with a spectacular and private surf beach.

There is a fantastic Sports Centre which offers every activity you can think of. Ranging from lawn bowls and mini golf to an outdoor chess board, we can guarantee that if you want to try a sport, you can do it here! There is also an adventurous children's playground in the Sports Center which is perfect for the little ones.

For those who love water, there are plenty of options at Couran Cove (and they're free too) which include kayaking, stand up paddleboarding, water wheeling and last but not least a 25m lap pool. Once you tire of these, you may opt for a refreshing swim at the beautiful surf beach located on the other side of the island.

recently established a new virtual world and experience entertainment centre with plenty of cool virtual sports games on offer. Unfortunately, this is not included in the Groupon voucher, so you'll have to fork out extra for this activity.

And last but not least, the dining. There are a range of bars and bistros for you to choose from. Unfortunately we had a really negative experience with food here and are unable to recommend good places to eat. We ordered Fish & Chips with a Garden Salad at the Marlin Bar & Bistro. It was obvious that the fish and chips had been pulled out of the freezer and thrown into the deep fryer as the food had a distinct 'freezer' taste to it. The salad, if you could even call it that, was a few withered mesclun leaves thrown on the side. Regrettably, the food was the only let down in what could be described as a fantastic day trip to .

All in all, Couran Cove is a wonderful place for families and couples looking for an adventure packed day trip or resort style holiday. For more information on the resort, refer to their website.
