This month, I have focused my city escapes suggestions on country locales near the sea, the river and the Adelaide hills. There is plenty on out in the country this summer, so do get out and about and enjoy a refreshing sea break, even if it is just for a day. RIVAFEST
Venue- Murray riverfront at Renmark.
A community event with some fabulous family entertainment with concerts, plenty of gourmet food and a fireworks show on the river at night. Tickets are $15 for adults and youth 12-18 are $8. Buy them from the visitor centre on the foreshore when you arrive. Take a weekend off with caravan parks, camping, B and B's or stay at a hotel. Renmark is great little town and not too far from Adelaide.

SHIPWRECKS AND SUNSET MARKET
Venue- Commodore Reserve, Port Elliot

Held only over a few times over the summer this twilight market will be a lovely venue on a warm summer night. Almost worth making a weekend of it and many do who stay at the local caravan park and in holiday houses for January. A tip to the oganisers to keep their facebook site updated as the market is only 2 weeks away as I write and no details are listed.
14 - 22 January
GOOLWA REGATTA WEEK
Venue- Murray River at Goolwa for nine days.
Enjoy a variety of summer sailing events and more, including the sailing races, vintage boats, and all free for spectators. Enjoy the fresh sea air and it's much cooler down by the sea.

Friday 20th
FESTIVAL OF MOVEMENT
Venue- Onkaparinga Region/ McClaren Vale
This a first time event by the City of Onkaparinga to welcome the cyclists of the Santos Tour Down Under. This community event will celebrate movement and healthy lifestyle. Activities include cycling events, yoga, market stalls, a night cinema and much more for families.
Once again I say the information provided by some event organisers is inadequate. I have searched three websites and not found a venue for this event. Perhaps call the Fleurieu Visitor Information Centre on 1800 628 410.
Saturday 21st January
COMPASS CUP
Venue- Mt Compass Oval.
They adore cows at Mt Compass and there is a long dairy industry history here. This firm favourite summer event has been running for many years. It is Australia's only cow race, with lots of fun family orientated events, food stalls and things to do. Also an end of day concert. Action starts from 11am.

Saturday 21st January 6pm- midnight
Venue- Uraidla Show Hall
NO FRILLS COMEDY FEST
This is a strictly adult's only comedy night with many acts, some international who have arrived a little early for the Fringe. Plenty of food, beer and wine all night long, with no BYO. This is a fundraiser event for a local park to be developed.
Tickets will sell fast so get in quick. They are $35 from
27-29 January
CRUSH FESTIVAL
Venue- At wineries across the Adelaide Hills.
This food and wine fest is held over one weekend with 41 wineries participating. No info whatsoever on this link unless you download a very big program file.

MT PLEASANT FARMERS MARKET 5TH BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS WITH SIMON BRYANT.
Venue- Mount Pleasant Showground, Mount Pleasant.
The Mount Pleasant Farmers Market will be celebrating their 5th Birthday with special guest celebrity chef Simon Bryant. Head for the hills and enjoy a morning at a country style Barossa farmers market. Later you could perhaps take a drive around the hills and have a picnic with your market goodies. Take your esky for your purchases.
