Escape the city for a taste of Christmas in the country
We all love Christmas but don't we loathe the hordes of Christmas shoppers and crowded stores - not to mention finding a parking space! But there is an alternative to your Christmas shopping - why not escape the rat race and head out to the country to one of these fun Christmas markets! Out in the country, you will find warm friendly people and you can enjoy a relaxing day in the countryside. Perhaps make a weekend trip of it and include some of the many Christmas events in the country.
The markets listed below have some very talented people showcasing their handcrafted wares to make your gift seeking much easier. You will also contribute to the local rural economy. At the same time, you can enjoy a fun day out in the country. All these market locations are a short drive from Adelaide, with a selection of some in the north, south and hills.

November 17th A Friday evening twilight market. Times are 4.30 to 8.30pm. Manoora is a small country town on the Barrier Highway north of Riverton.
VICTOR HARBOR ARTISAN MARKET Saturday December 2nd. 10am-6pm You will find some unique gifts here at this market, which brings the best of the Fleurieu region in one market. Local artworks and crafters are here with wares for sale you won't find at Adelaide city and suburban markets.

BAROSSA CHRISTMAS MARKETS DAY Saturday 9th December.
Wow, two big markets in one day at Tanunda and both a short walking distance from each other. Adornment Barossa Made Market will be held at the Visitor Centre on the main road in the centre of town from 12-5pm. And just a short walk away, The Barossa Regional Gallery will hold the inaugural Barossa Makers and Beyond Market. This will be held from 2-7pm. You can take a look at their current exhibition while you are there.
At these markets, you will find some of the best Barossa artists and artisans. Items for sale will include including pottery, woodwork, candles, jewellery and handmade cards. The markets will be decorated in a festive setting. Plenty of food and drink available and also at local cafes and pubs. Why not make a day of it away from the city.
CHRISTKINDLMARKT AT HANDORF
Friday 15th December 5pm – 10pm
Saturday 16th December 4pm – 10pm
Sunday 17th December 4pm – 10pm
This European style Christmas market is now a hills tradition. It is so big it is held over three days. Located at C3 Church, Main Rd and Auriet Rd. As you can imagine, Handorf is very busy at this time and the organisers urge you to take the bus as parking is very limited and if you do manage to find one it is a long walk.See website here for information and a list of all the stallholders. Lots of unique gift ideas and they have carols by candlelight as well.

MOUNT PLEASANT CHRISTMAS TWILIGHT MARKET
Friday 22nd December 5-9pm
Showgrounds on Main Road, Mt Pleasant.
The Mount Pleasant Farmers market is extended for this special hills Christmas event. Held on a Friday evening it is a great time to go along with the family and enjoy something to eat and pick up some special Chistmas treats and supplies. With 50 fresh food producers, free food tastings it is a foodie fun. Santa makes an appearance for the kids.They do some lovely gift hampers here which are quick and easy gifts everyone will love to receive.
