One of the cafes located along Prospect Road in Prospect, Cotto Cafe offers a good range of cafe-style dishes, many of which are a bit different from the norm. It was a popular place, there was a large crowd when we visited.

The roasted pumpkin in the Nourish Bowl retained its texture and the skin was not tough. Changes of texture were provided by turmeric cauliflower, radish, avocado and roasted chickpeas. White quinoa added a nutty taste. The beetroot hummus and chunks of beetroot added a hint of sweetness, and apple tahini dressing tied everything together. Extra ingredients like pork and fennel sausage can be added at an additional cost.

The Spiced Fried Chicken Waffles had pieces of fried chicken with succulent flesh set off nicely by crisp coating. The spices in the coating gave the chicken a mild spiced flavour. The bacon and fried egg were cooked just right, and the pickled gherkins had a delectable tangy flavour. Their Belgian waffles were not too sweet and had a light and fluffy texture. Served with the dish was maple syrup for pouring over the waffles.

As its name suggests, Burgerdict is a twist on Eggs Benedict, with Wagyu beef patties replacing the ham. The patties had a nice charred flavour without being dry, and the poached eggs had runny yolks. Baby gem lettuce and tomatoes made the dish resemble an open burger dish and the pickled gherkins had a delectable tangy flavour. We were able to have the Dijon hollandaise sauce served on the side.

Their Chicken Coronation Burger featured the same spiced fried chicken used in the Spiced Fried Chicken Waffles. Mango chutney and raisins added a hint of sweetness and curried yoghurt balanced out the spiciness. We were able to have the Swiss cheese omitted. Accompanying the burger were crisp and fluffy fries seasoned with the right amount of salt. Your choice of a tomato or aioli dipping sauce can be added for free.

Their banana and ricotta pancakes in the Banana Split dish were light and moist, and did not taste cheesy. The inclusion of raspberries imparted a hint of tartness. The banana chip and coconut crumble had a lovely crunch, and the caramelised banana was not too sweet. Along with a topping of whipped mascarpone, butterscotch peanut butter sauce came with the dish for enjoying with the pancakes.

The decor of the cafe gave it a rustic feel. Diners have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Booking ahead is advised to ensure that you get a table when you visit.
