Fresh coffee brewers: Cottle on Coventry - can't get fresher!

In the busy and much sought-after area of Coventry Street in South Melbourne you will find Cottle on Coventry.



Famous for the freshest coffee in Melbourne, they roast their coffee on site here and are more than happy to share their experience and lovely wares with you.

It has a rather funky exterior, which belies the demure interior.



As you walk away from the South Melbourne Market, you will find it on the left-hand side of Coventry Street.

Upon entering, to the left of this store is a range of coffee, biscuits, kitchen wares and sweet treats; much like a gourmet giftshop where you can buy a selection of items to take home with you.



Behind this you will find their coffee roasting area with huge plastic bins filled with coffee and is awaiting surfing.

They graciously took my family into this area and explained the process of coffee roasting and how everything needs to be exactly perfect.

I did not realise that you could not drink coffee as soon as it was roasted, I thought that it was okay to do, but they explained to me that this would make it bitter and they needed to have a certain amount of sitting time (and not too long) before it was brewed for the very best coffee.



On the wall is a lovely range of different types of coffee which you can sample here.

To the right is a unique little cafe where they serve light meals and of course great coffees.



Naturally as they were making such amazing claims we needed to sample this coffee and see if it was as good as they made out. Our verdict - yes, they make great coffee here.

Although at the time of this review going to publishing they did not have a kitchen, they were starting to make some small meals here so perhaps by the time you read this they will also be offering breakfast and lunch

I am sure they would do it well.
