My first visit to Cottesloe beach sadly came just a few days after the fatal shark tragedy this summer, so perhaps the beach was a little quieter than usual. But my first impressions were that the beach and surrounding area were clean, peaceful and ideal for families.
Whilst I personally prefer Scarborough beach, which feels like a livelier place for younger people to visit due to its wave of surfers and array of water sports along the beachfront, there was still a charm about Cottesloe beach.
I would say that Cottesloe is more suited for sun worshippers looking to relax and get a tan. There is also a grassed area set back from the beach which is a bit more comfortable to lay on than the beach and is suited for families with young children. Babies can play and look out over the beach without getting all sandy, and there is a children's play area.
There are restrooms and refreshments nearby, although I suspect some people would find this beach a little too quiet and perhaps on the dull side. I was quite impressed with the golf course nearby though, with its brilliant views of the sea – so I wouldn't be surprise if golfers and co. are the ideal visitors for this area.
