Can you keep a secret?
I almost feel reluctant to reveal this secret wonderland on the world-wide-web. I want to keep it to myself!

Alas, my desire to see the proprietors flourish and this unique rainforest escape to remain available to those who need it has negated the selfish secret-keeper in me. So I shall continue….

I recently took myself to a quiet getaway named Cottages on the Creek in the heavenly Currumbin Valley.

It was as though the hand of the divine picked me up and gently placed me in my ultimate dream: nature-abound poetry for scenery: lush greenery, kookaburras perched outside my window, a gushing creek just metres in front of my isolated cottage, and constant rain, grey skies, and cold climate that both promotes staying indoors and gave me an excuse to light my personal pot-belly fire on my veranda.

So freeing was it to be set up with my books, coffee, wine, jazz, and snacks. To do whatever I felt like for three days - just me and the trees.

A windy, country road will take you from Currumbin to the lush wonder of the valley in approximately twenty minutes. If you're new to the area or a nervous driver, try and make it before nightfall as there is no street lighting.

You will arrive to a secluded property consisting of the main house (where the owners reside) and two cottages located a couple of heartbeats from the tranquil creek. The gush of the water flowing is a beautiful sound to fall asleep each night.

The cabins are fully self-contained and offer any amenity you could ask for including a fully stocked kitchen, bbq, and spa bath (don't mind if I do), complete with candles and incense. They really pay attention to detail on this property to ensure you don't need anything. Firewood is chopped and stacked outside the cottages for the fire as well.

You can sleep in, gently to be awoken by the kookaburras laugh, or you can make the most of the morning with a choice of beautiful rainforest walks.

There is a fruit shop a couple of minutes' walk down the road for you to sample the fresh local produce, and if you're in the mood for a day trip, you can sample the quaint town of Murwillumbah for lunch or even a trip to the movies.

For those used to modern urban comforts, be warned it is an eco-property so you will be using a drop toilet, and you must be willing to kiss your phone reception/internet connection goodbye for the duration of your stay.

If your soul is in dire need of a recharge, or if you're after a private getaway with your loved one for the weekend, I cannot recommend Cottages on the Creek highly enough.

Just don't go telling everyone...
