We recently spent a few days up in the Hunter Valley with some overseas relatives and were fortunate enough to happen upon "Cottages on Lovedale" for our last minute booking. Located in the aptly named heart shaped Lovedale region, these cottages are set within a short drive to everything you need (wineries, shops, restaurants, did I mention wineries...?). There are 3 separate cottages on the property which are eco friendly, self contained and can accommodate up to 8 people within their 3 bedrooms (and fold out couch). If you only need 1 or 2 bedrooms, they charge accordingly and lock up the other rooms.
Relaxing on the deck - keep an eye out for kangaroos
The first thing that stood out about these cottages, apart from the serene location, was just how clean they are. And I mean really clean. Not one speck of dirt or dust, not in a corner, not in a cupboard, nowhere (i checked). Spotless. These quaint country style cottages are roomy enough while still being cosy. They have a lounge and dining area, fully equipped kitchen, 2 bathrooms both with separate toilet, 3 bedrooms and an undercover deck with outdoor setting and a BBQ. There is a fireplace for those chilly nights and it all comes with a lovely bottle of welcome wine from Gartelmann Wines for your enjoyment.
With no check in or check out - you are given a security code for the front door - it feels like you are visiting your own private little holiday home. Your car can be parked right up next to the entrance as well which makes it easier if you have a mountain of luggage and kids to get inside. The Deck Cafe is a short walk or even shorter drive away and is the perfect place for breakfast or brunch before hitting the wineries, with one located right next door to the café.
These cottages are very private with the added bonus of kangaroo spotting from your deck of a morning or evening. For further information please visit their website.

I stayed there once, it was so lovely, romantic, but the funny thing was I was seeing Rod Stewart live at the vineyards and it was the only accommodation my best friend and I could find at the last minute. We always have a laugh about that weekend.
