One of my favorite places in all of Sydney is a secret hideaway in the Kuring-gai National Park. On the water at Cottage Point is the Cottage Point Kiosk & Boat Hire.
It's a popular eatery for boat owners and land lubbers alike. Along with the usual hamburgers and fish & chips fare, there are a few specialties such as mussels in chilli & garlic or beef & Guinness pot pie with Horseradish mash. My recommendation, however, is the Wild Barra Curry. Restaurant standard and served as such on a banana leaf on a broad white china plate - Sensational!
Bear in mind, it gets busy at lunch, so allow plenty of time on a sunny day if you want to get a table.
The kiosk is a general store with basics for those on boats, but the other highlight is the tinny and kayak rental. You can easily reach little deserted beaches or while away a few hours exploring the waterways in this beautiful part of the city. Life jackets and instruction provided.
