Recently opened, Cottage Kitchen along Tynte Street in North Adelaide specialises in dishes focusing on Mediterranean flavours using South Australian ingredients. It was popular, there was a crowd of a good size when we visited.

Serving as a vegetarian stand-in for eggs, the scrambled tofu in the Tofu Breakfast Bowl retained its texture. It was contrasted by the slightly chewy wild rice. A crunchy element was provided by jalapeno pepitas (pumpkin seeds) and crispy kale. Roasted beetroot and pumpkin added a slightly sweet taste. Miso vinaigrette gave the dish an Asian flair. The dish is best enjoyed by mixing all the ingredients before it is eaten.

Their Carrot, Corn & Chilli Fritter was not too soft, with the carrot and corn giving it some firmness. They were cooked sufficiently to give them a golden-brown colour. While chilli was included, the degree of spiciness was quite mild. Served with the fritters was refreshing mint yoghurt that partnered nicely with the fritters.

When ordering the Eggs on Sourdough, diners can choose to have the eggs poached, scrambled or fried. We chose to have the eggs scrambled. It was light and fluffy with a moist interior. The sourdough toast was not over-toasted and a topping of micro greens completed the presentation. Barossa bacon can be added at an additional cost.

The restaurant has a rustic feel, and diners have the choice between indoor and outdoor seating. Booking ahead is advised to ensure you get a table.
