I walked around the big concrete warehouse, discovering products and brands I have never seen in other supermarkets.
After lots of: walking, price comparing and of course sampling food; I realised I could potentially save around 20% on everyday groceries and also save time and fuel in going to the shops regularly.
I approached the customer service counter, where a really friendly girl took my details, photo and $60 AUD for private membership or $55 AUD if I was a business owner (remember to bring your ABN), and in less than a minute I had my shiny new card and could start shopping.
Having done my research already, I knew which products meant savings, and spent exactly $200 in everyday products: cereal, milk, toilet paper, detergent, etc.
There is certainly significant savings in a lot of products; however I found myself giving some items extra thought, such as 7kg bags of rice, which is fine if you have plenty of storage at home. Being a big open neutral space, I found it a far more enjoyable shopping experience.
Costco can definitely be a one stop shop for big families: they do catering of platters, cakes and pizzas, they also offer a huge range of quality clothing, furniture, sports equipment, stationery and even jewellery.
For smaller households like mine; it is still a good way to save money, time and never have to do the walk of shame, because you still have 400 toilet rolls in the cupboard!
Costco is located on 404-406 Churchill Road, Kilburn 5084.
