When I think of seafood, the only image that springs to mind first hand is the seafood BBQ by the beach. There is absolutely nothing that beats this. Just imagine, a perfect sun set (which is synonymous for Perth beach locations) with the water as the backdrop, prawns on the "barbie" and a good drink (which in my case is a good cup of coffee).
So, on route in Fremantle I happened to come across a seafood store that sold a range of seafood products including tiger prawns. This little place is a little off the beaten track because it is not among all those little shops centered in the heart of town. It can be found along the Quay area on a road called Mews Road. And the place of mention is called,
Correia Fishing Company.
At first I thought it was one of those businesses' that is in charge of a fleet of fishing vessels. However, I saw a little sign that beckoned me to walk around the corner of the building where I saw the entrance to a shop. I hesitantly entered, but was soon welcomed by a range of fridges that offered an even greater range of seafood products.
I soon learnt the Correia Fishing Company does have a few fishing vessels of their own which they use to fish for their products. A range of businesses are supplied with a selection of seafood that they catch, however they opened up a little shop to offer the local community the chance to purchase the product from them directly.
The store is not known by all. And it is probably a little hidden treasure that Fremantle tried to hide from the rest of the world. Needless to say, the word is now out, and I suggest that next time you are in Fremantle that you pop in to see if there is something that may just suit your "seafood" fancy.
As for, me? I ended up enjoying an amazing
Prawn BBQ by the beach - just what the doctor ordered.
