Take a moment to recharge, lift your spirits and contemplate the serene beauty of choral song at Pilgrim Uniting Church's monthly Evensong this Saturday. The Evensong on
Saturday, May 6 @ 5pm will feature the
coronation music 'I Was Glad' by C.H.H. Parry (1848-1918) and 'Zadok the Priest' by G.F. Handel (1685-1759). Handel wrote the anthem 'Zadok the Priest' for the coronation of George II in 1727, and it has been used at every coronation since. It is sung before the anointing of the sovereign.
Evensong is a centuries-old tradition that has evolved to become a service sung by the Minister and an ethereal choir of 25 accompanied by one of the largest pipe organs in Australia. Pilgrim's Evensong is held on the first Saturday of each month at 5pm and is a free service open to all members of the public. The church is located at 12 Flinders St, Adelaide.
Charles III will be crowned with St Edward's Crown, just like his mother, grandfather and great-grandfather before him. ABC coverage of the King's procession from Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey will commence at 7pm Adelaide time, with the coronation service itself starting at 7:30pm. TV broadcasts are beginning several hours earlier, however, to include previews and arrivals.
