Corner Lamp Books is one of the reason's book stores are hanging around - and what's more: are coming back.
Having been on Station Street Moorabbin for seven years - and thus part of the number of businesses like Grape and Grain that are helping bring about a 'resurgence' in Moorabbin - it is a store for those that don't have a kindle, do have a kindle, and/or are not quite sure what a kindle is. This to say: If you love books you'd surely find much to like within the stacks here.
Walking on by you'll see books lining the windows, and once you walk on in a warm and welcoming sign can be spotted above the door. As it is explicitly stated 'browsers are welcome', and you'll have no issue taking your time to wander through the store; and find no trouble in finding an interest as you do.
The store's 'signature' lamp lighting up a collection of hardbacks behind it.
On the left, is a substantive fantasy and crime fiction. For those keen on Game of Thrones, John Grisham and Co., this is the section for you. Yet, while this'll always be a big draw amongst customers - and rightfully so giving the many great works in both genres - it is through walking deeper into the store that perhaps its greatest gems are found.
While by the very nature of being a second hand store exact items come and go, works by the recognisable names like Hemingway, Dostoevsky, Melville, Keats and more regularly feature on the shelves.
Sauntering into the far aisle of the store - and right by the corner lamp which is the signature of the store - you'll find a good array of classics on shelf. Though collectors shall be delighted to find a section of the rarest books on display (behind a locked glass case of course), it is further along that perhaps this store shines most in the minds of many.

Travel guides, works of Australiana, classical music and more are all here. While it'd be wrong to say all of these may instantly evoke an interest in any one visitor - for tastes from person to person shall differ - there is invariably always a book or two in each section that shall draw your eye. This is important for not every second hand book store's collection shall have this impact upon a customer; in the worst cases leaving one feeling works from anywhere and everywhere have been tossed on the shelf for a quick sale. In this way, Corner Lamp scores some points for the quality of offer in its collection.
'...there is invariably always a book or two in each section that shall draw your eye.'
Should be said too, while this is a store that's a real treasure trove of cultural works - and some great rarities too - it is also one that is accessible to all, and the stock on hand reflects that. For those yet to acquire a vintage car manual or two they can be found in store.
Miss picking up the 1937 Vauxhall car manual first time round? Here you've a second chance...
This to say, if you don't find what your looking for on shelf a view to the ground may find your item in mind amongst the boxes. While some may say if books are not on a shelf it is sin, instead, getting as many books as possible out onto display and for visitors viewing appears a chief aim of Corner Lamps.
