The South Australian Children's Ballet Company presents ' Coppelia]' playing at The Arts Theatre on Saturday September 17th at 2:00pm and 4:00pm and Sunday September 18th at 1:00pm and 3:00pm.

The SACBC Present a version of Coppelia that is different to the story most people know. Coppelia is the story of a toy maker named Dr Coppelius who dreams of bringing his toys to life. Dr. Coppélius creates a life-size dancing doll that steals Franz, a village youths heart.

Directed by Beverly Waters, choreographed by Paul Boyd with lighting and design by Lorraine Irving and Brendan Maidment, the SACBC's story is based in a girl's Performing Arts School.

Mrs Atholthwaite (Elise Bonato) doesn't allow mobile phones at this school, so when she leaves the room the senior girls break the rules. Mrs Atholthwaite confiscates all the phones except for Sophie's, who proceeds to call her boyfriend, Luke (Tim Mackie). Luke suggests in order to get the other girls' phones back they should slip Mrs Atholthwaite a sleeping tablet that will give them enough time to find their belongings.

This works perfectly, except while she was sleeping the students proceeded to try on costumes from the Dance Styles of the World exhibition and left the library in the mess. She wasn't happy, especially when she sees her favourite costume, 'Coppelia,' was involved. The students apologise and put on a performance wearing the costumes.

The performance for Mrs Atholthwaite featured a selection of dances from across the world, including beautiful renditions of Scottish, Spanish, Arabian, Chinese, Italian Japanese and French styles and Sophie (Ashleigh Voss, Emily Crosby, Claire McCormack) & Luke's (Tim Mackie) Pas De Deux duet wearing the Coppelia costume.

Starring The Senior Girls: Emily Crosby, Lily Glassenbury, Charly Hopkins, Eliza Maslin, Claire McCormack, Stella Page, Alisa Purkinen, Sophie Sawers, Tallulah Thorrowgood, Ashleigh Voss, Jessica Yates & The Junior Girls: Zara Blight, Emily Durdin, Tessa Gratton, Lilah McRoe, Alice Min, Charlotte Pike, Leila Revell, Lexie Reynolds, Victoria Scardigno.

This was a beautiful production of children's ballet at its finest. As the show came to a close, the audience cheered in excitement for all the hard work that has gone into this production. It was very entertaining to watch. 5/5 Stars, a must see production.
