The history of South Australian Founding is my passion, Adelaide City and the surrounding landscape and towns is the setting for the adventure, more on weekend notes no doubt!

Catch you at Copley
Copley in the Northern Flinders Ranges demonstrates a revival in old fashioned strip shopping, the main attraction the famous Quandong Bush Bakery now flanked by the Gallery, the History Room and YIN, making this small outpost a most interesting visit for those planning the beautiful drive into the Flinders Ranges.

Famed Irishman and entrepreneur Tommy Agnew recently passed away but would no doubt be delighted that his dream which reached its zenith perhaps in the seventies is once again thriving, delighting travelers and locals alike looking for a pleasant day of distractions before heading northward or east to the Arkaroola Sanctuary.

Copley itself is named after the emigrant William Copley who began his life in South Australia on the Burra copper mines, working hard to eventually become responsible for Crown Lands. Thomas Playford developed the Leigh Creek coal fields which still operate to this day, providing the main economic benefits for the township of Leigh Creek, five kilometres south of the Copley township.

Once the traveller to this destination reaches Hawker, the rest of the drive is rather sublime and with the option of a stay at Parachilna on the way for some of their famed fare and beverages, it's not long before they will reach Leigh Creek and Copley, a great base for a restful retreat or a stopover on an outback journey.

hey, welcome to writing at Weekend Notes Lovealaide.
It was great to hear about Copley (I had never heard of the place). It's a pity you didn't have more photos, as you have stirred my interest now :)

Tom stayed with my family and I when he came back to Ireland. He was a good man and we miss him terribly. He wrote me endless letters which I still have and we read and remember him, The Craic was always good and he would recite The green eyed monster among others 😀
