A fun day's activity for the whole family in Cooroy
The town of Cooroy in Queensland is situated just off the Bruce Highway, approximately twenty-two kilometres west of Noosa Heads. Originally settled by timber-cutters in 1863, Cooroy's community developed to include two operating sawmills, a dairying industry, fruit growing and a butter factory, which opened in 1915. The town's name came from Mount Cooroy, which was called Coorooey from the Aboriginal word for possum "Kurui".

Today Cooroy has a population of approximately 3459 residents but what it does not make up for in town size, it certainly makes up for in community events such as the Cooroy Fusion Festival. This festival is a free event to be held on Saturday 12th May 2018 at the Lower Mill Place Cooroy. The Lower Mill Place is now heritage listed but once was home to a timber drying kiln built in late 1956 for sawmillers J Wilkinson and Sons Pty Ltd and Straker & Sons Pty Ltd.

Previously held annually under the banner of the Cooroy Future Group Inc, this year, the festival will combine Cooroy's other annual festivals; Noosa District Orchid & Foliage Society, Camphor Laurel Timber Initiative and Cooroora Woodworkers Club fusing together their combined creativity, talent, innovation and expertise. Visitors will have the opportunity to purchase and taste the district's local produce, wander around the local arts, crafts, artisan market stalls and demonstrations while enjoying the music from the live bands, which will be situated under the Bendigo Bank Marquee.

The Noosa Council, Cooroy Community Bank of Bendigo, Cooroy Library, Butter Factory Arts Gallery, Cooroy Rag Newspaper, Fiona Winter Reality, Cooroy Super IGA and RSL Cooroy, Raine&Horne, Tourism Noosa, Greenwood Grove Cooroy and Wythes Real Estate are providing sponsorship for the event.

The day's activities will commence at 9.30am and conclude at 3.00pm. It might be an idea to bring a chair and don't forget your hat and sunscreen so you can sit back and enjoy the entertainment. If you need more information on this event, go to the website. There are plenty of photographs from last year's event there also.
