Established in 2007 and now a centrepiece of the Wallaroo marina redevelopment, this pub pulls all your favourite Coopers beers on tap with a bistro, bar, and sun-drenched deck dining by the sea at Wallaroo.

Wallaroo, along with Moonta and Kadina, is part of the 'Copper Triangle'. It's a sunny tourist destination on the shores of the Spencer Gulf, only 90 minutes from Adelaide. We visited on one of those beautiful sunny days for lunch and enjoyed great food and wine with the sun on our faces and the salty sea breeze in our hair.

The Wallaroo marina development does have a way to go to the alehouse and attached apartment building stand out on the landscape - I bet they're looking forward to the day the development is complete and they're surrounded by millionaires' rows.

The entry is pretty stock standard but opens up to reveal a modern and open bar, deck, and restaurant space. On most days you'll be drawn to the deck overlooking the water if there's enough space.

The menu is different to your regular country pub although it does include many pub classics. We opted for Coffin Bay oysters as a starter and a couple of main meals. For seafood lovers, there's just something about eating oysters by the sea that's hard to beat.

The southern fried chicken burger is thick and juicy with a perfectly cooked coating captured in a crispy light burger bun with bacon, salad, and chips on the side. It's an excellent pub dish done well. The Sous Vide Roaring 40s Lamb Rump is one of the best lamb dishes I've had in ages. Perfectly juicy, flavourful, plump, and meaty pieces of lamb sit atop a potato rosti, baby carrots, sauteed greens, mint labneh, pea puree, red wine jus, and roast lemon. I just had to list all the elements as they were all so good and came together so well on the plate.

The menu has plenty to choose from and includes wood oven pizzas, schnitzels, pastas and salads. The kitchen offers gluten free and vegan options with a kid's menu also to keep the little bellies from rumbling. The drinks list is massive but the real feature here is the wide range of Coopers beers on tap. Sorry people - again we ran out of room for dessert but you can choose from the specials on the TV boards.

Of course, they offer gaming, live sport, and plenty of your usual country hospitality in a contemporary setting, but it's the food (and that deck area) that makes this place stand out from the rest.
