From shabby to chic; the ultimate beach bar rescue
It's official, the re-born Coolum Beach Hotel has got its mojo back. After a multi-million dollar redevelopment, the once tired local favourite has been transformed into a bright, spacious and thoroughly contemporary watering hole.
Located within a stone's throw of the beach, parks and the tourist strip, The Coolum Beach Hotel has always been in an enviable position. Thanks to a Bar Rescue style metamorphosis (A&E fans take note), the interior style and layout is now nearly a match for the stunning natural surrounds of Coolum Beach.
The new and much improved internal layout features an open plan bistro and bar area with comfortable seating for indoor or outdoor dining. Punters are well catered for with the obligatory one armed bandits in the gaming room, as well as TAB facilities including a number of large and well located screens. There's an even a small internal playground for the kids.
Like over 300 local pubs across Australia, the Coolum Beach Hotel is a Graziers pub owned by the ALH Group. ALH also own BWS and Dan Murphy's and predictably the large Coolum Beach Hotel car park is shared with a monolithic Dan Murphy's liquor outlet.
This link to ALH means menu items in the bistro, while not overly unique or interesting, are reliable and generally well-priced with most mains under $30. Monthly deals (generally featuring steak options) are a feature of the Graziers pub group and offer further value.
But the real highlight of the new Coolum Beach Hotel is the beautifully presented alfresco Beach Bar. Featuring relaxed, lounge style seating and a more boutique bar vibe, the Beach Bar is the perfect place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.
Adding to its appeal is a separate menu (all under $25) which features some more contemporary dining options (think sliders and wings), as well as traditional beach pub grub (seafood basket, burgers and chips, etc).
The revitalised Coolum Beach Hotel is definitely a family and budget friendly winner for Coolum locals and visitors alike. Be sure to check it out while it retains that new car style smell of any new establishment.
