The meanders slowly along next to it's namesake from Tempe to Parramatta. Unlike other parts of the city it is shady and green, littered with parks on either side, play and exercise equipment, sports fields and views of the river itself.

While a 20 kilometre walk or cycle is not necessarily appealing, especially when you consider the trip back, choosing a small section can provide the perfect outing.

Enjoy a ride or walk with family or friends, then choose a picnic spot and enjoy the striking views of the river and parklands.

If you start at Bicentennial Park you are able to rent bikes, go on a number of walks or participate in the activities at Sydney Olympic Park.

The RTA offers maps of the path (as well as many other cycle paths) which you can download here or you can use this larger map and guide.

The track also forms part of the larger “Bay to Bay” walk which is often used for charity cycling and walking events and runs from Botany Bay to Homebush Bay.

For a close examination of the River itself and its surrounds, Wikipedia has a detailed article with some great pictures.
