Cook Park is located in Rockdale and stretches for 8 kilometres along the western foreshore of Botany Bay – from General Holmes Drive Kyeemagh to The Grand Parade in Dolls Point.
The park is the perfect family spot as it offers everything one needs for a great day out. There are several playgrounds, toilets, showers, change rooms, picnic shelters and seating.
You will also find BBQs in several spots, so bring some sausages for lunch or if you prefer not to cook, there are many great cafes and restaurants, not only in the park, but also across the street, so the selection of lunch menu is plentiful.
For those wishing to get some exercise, the length of the park offers a great walkway / bike track, where children can ride their bikes, scooters, skateboards or rollerblade.
Large trees line parts of the walkway and offer shade during hot summer months or you can cool off on Brighton Le Sands beach, which is right next to the park. The beach is sheltered, so there are no waves, making it ideal for families with young children.
As the park is located opposite Sydney Airport, children will enjoy watching planes land and take off and surprisingly most of the time you won't hear any noise from the planes.
Parking is available on the street and there are also several small car parks. Alternatively you can catch public transport, as there are several bus stops along the way.
If you are visiting Sydney and looking for accommodation, you will find a number of hotels, motels, B&Bs and holiday apartments in the Brighton Le Sands / Rockdale area – one of the most popular being Novotel Brighton Beach.
