Get out of the city and see something different! Coober Pedy, Opal capital of the world, is an entirely unique place and unique experience in the Australian Outback. Coober Pedy is located in central northern South Australia, almost 9hrs drive north of Adelaide, past Pt Augusta, past Woomera, or a 2hr flight. The Opal Festival is something you can not experience anywhere else. Coober Pedy celebrates its rich heritage and multicultural community, its unusual underground lifestyle, and of course Opals! Those colourful, shiny rocks that have mesmerised many throughout generations.
