When you think of playgrounds for children, naturally what comes to mind is the standard set of swings, see-saw or slippery dip.

This is the norm for most playgrounds these days, great fun for the little-uns as caregivers stand guard or assist with swing pushing duties. However, not all places fit this mould.

For a play area that's a little more out of this world, there's a relatively new addition in Iron Cove a short walk from the revamped Iron Cove Bridge.

is an impressively modern play area with space shuttle inspired equipment and planetary motifs.

One of its first noticeable features is a huge spaceship-like climbing structure. As if by some strange gravitational pull, you may find yourself racing the kids to the top quicker than they can say BLAST OFF!

also boasts not one but two silver slippery dips of a decent length and width. Easily accessible by of a set of green stairs, these sleekly designed terrestrial twins are sure to delight slide enthusiasts both young and old.

With a shaded area and many more eye catching features to explore, this playground will definitely keep the kids entertained for hours on end. For parents who prefer to supervise there is a seating area, cleverly positioned for a prime view of the entire playing area.

So the next time you take the kids to the park, visit and let your own inner child out to play.
