Greater Gliders are our largest gliding mammals and are amongst Logan's most secretive and little-seen native species. They're fluffy-eared, hollow-dwelling marsupials and look a lot like their ringtail possum relatives. Their Patagium, a membrane that stretches from their elbow to ankle enables them to glide up to 100m between trees. Their slow movement and size require their need for large tree hollows and they have a specialised diet of gum leaves. Because of these specifics, it places these nationally vulnerable marsupials at risk from habitat loss, climate change and bushfires.

This FREE workshop is delivered by Logan City Council, Wildlife Queensland's Queensland Glider Network experts and will be held at Greenbank Community Centre, 145 Teviot Rd, Greenbank on Saturday 19 June 2021 from 12pm to 5pm AEST. Register here to attend. Numbers are limited so be sure to get in early.

The talks on the day will be on the main risks to great gliders in Logan; what Logan City Council and Wildlife Queensland are doing to protect and conserve these marsupials in the Logan region through nest box installation and monitoring and the restoration of vital glider habitat; an innovative new project helping to conserve greater gliders and yellow-bellied gliders in South East Queensland, including the latest project findings in the Logan region, and how you can get involved. You'll also learn how to make your backyards more wildlife-friendly and reduce the threats to greater gliders in Logan.

The Nest Box is for Logan Residents Only and the first 20 Logan resident attendees who book the Workshop Talk PLUS Nest Box Building Ticket will be handed Hollow Log Homes nest box kits. Hollow Log Homes are the leading designer and manufacturer of quality nesting boxes for wildlife in Australia and will present and demonstrate how to build a nest box using a Hollow Log Homes nest box kit.The workshop will conclude with a Q&A session and light refreshments will be provided.

Raffle -Wildlife Queensland will raffle off a beautiful nest box generously provided by Hollow Log Homes. The winner will be drawn at the conclusion of the workshop.
