Ever wondered what is the meaning of life? Why are we here? Where do we come from? Where are we going? What is the point?
There are many places on the Sunshine Coast that aim to answer such questions and help to develop the latent forces within us all. Here are a couple of the big ones:
Chenrezig Buddhist Institute (Eudlo)
Chenrezig Institute is a Buddhist retreat, study and monastic centre in the Sunshine Coast hinterland that offers a peaceful place to spend some time experiencing authentic Tibetan Buddhist teachings. Book in for a meditation class or retreat, enjoy relaxing in their homely vegetarian café (the gluten free cakes are awesome!), or simply enjoy the tranquility of the beautiful gardens and ambiance of the hinterland.
The centre is open to public from Wednesday to Sunday and
public courses and retreats run regularly. Advanced bookings for lunch are needed and made via the website.
Sunshine Coast Gnostic Society (Mooloolaba)
Based in Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, the Sunshine Coast Gnostic Society gives regular classes on the gnostic (gnosis means knowledge through direct intimate experience) teachings, whose main influences are the Mystery Schools of the east and west. The school and its classes are all funded by voluntary donations and local and international retreats are available for advanced students.
Their goal is to move the student past theories and beliefs to direct experience of the mysteries of life and death, and the divinity within. Some of the topics they cover are meditation, kabbalah, dream yoga / astral travel, alchemy (sacred tantra), esoteric tarot, mysticism, as well as the science, which has been secretly taught in all religions and mystery schools, which humanises the divine and deifies the human. Their next
public classes start late January.
Lift - Sound, Colour, Light (Maleny)
Lift is a great place to experience art and sound that enhances and enlivens our daily experience. It aims to be home to Australia's largest collection of spiritual and energy art. This is art created with the intention of healing and uplifting. They offer sound chakra balancing and a 'sound spa', run regular concerts and fire ceremonies, and their Live Foods Café (open Friday to Sunday) provides delicious, plant based food that nourishes the body & delights the senses. Visit their
Facebook Page for current events (many free).
Meetup Groups
Meetup.com is also a great way to connect with likeminded people.
