A newcomer to Melbourne, I love exploring the city and sourrounds by day and night, finding bargains, learning new things, the great outdoors and Melbourne life in general.

Exercise for a good cause
Now the weather is getting warmer, exercise and fresh air are more appealing. If you're a dog lover and need an incentive to visit one of Melbourne's many parks, why not look into volunteer dog walking in your suburb.

I joined the Balwyn Welfare Association's Companion Animal Volunteer Support Program (CAVS) 6 months ago and now enjoy a weekly walk with a beautiful chocolate Labrador.

The program matches you with an owner/owners who can no longer walk their dog regularly due to disability or ill health. By helping out in this small way, you help keep owner and pet together; maintaining a very important bond; provide much needed exercise for the animal and fun and fulfilment for yourself.

Many city councils offer similar services. You can find out more via your council or local library.
