All roads lead to The Basin, at the foot of the Dandenong Ranges, whatever the season. For the garden enthusiasts as well as those who love vintage cars, then a visit to the Como Gardens[/LINK] Open Garden Weekend on 19th and 20th October is a must. The hills at this time of the year are alive with the songs of not only music, but also the springtime blossoms and countless birdsong.

Como Gardens
will be celebrating their Open Garden Weekend on Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October 2013. Opening at 10 am the Gardens will be presenting a variety of exhibits that will appeal to all ages.

Special exhibits this year will include the Working Display Vintage Car Museum, while the Holmesglen Engineering's Get Set for Life Project will display their Hybrid 100% electric vehicle. Adults and kids can ride on the miniature railway.

Barrel organ music will be provided by Hans.

The Knox Historical Society display as well as garden tours and ferns and orchids for sale will compete with model boats on the lake as well as Natural Edge Wood Carving demonstration with Glen Barlow.

For the children Gordon Ross, a puppeteer and ventriloquist will be entertaining and there will be a Teddy Bears Picnic, as well as other children's attractions and activities.

Toilets for the disabled and ample on site parking is provided. Dogs on leads are permitted, so take the whole family.

Devonshire teas and refreshments as well as a sausage sizzle will be available.

Entry Fee is $7.50, chidren under 14 free. The Como Gardens Open Garden Weekend raises funds for St John Ambulance and the S.E.S.

Why not even make it a full weekend away; there's plenty to do and see. While at The Basin visiting Como Gardens, do take time out to visit some of the village shops at the Basin; Free Range Meats for an extensive range of meats, produce, relishes and chutneys, and special goods suitable for gifts and the Chocolate Dragonfly for light meals, fantastic coffees and teas. Then a leisurely browse around Rainy Day Books bookshop where you'll find a wide selection of books to suit everyone, including children. Hard to find and rare books available.

Visit the local Fish and Chip shop and wander across to The Basin Triangle for the kids to enjoy the children's playground; there's plenty to occupy their enthusiasm.
