An extraordinary place to visit in the foothills of the Dandenongs

Como Gardens , approximately 30 kms east of Melbourne, is set in 6 delightful hectares of beautiful landscaped gardens, wetlands, and forest. The gardens nestle in the foothills of the Dandenongs, at 79 Basin/Olinda Road, The Basin, Victoria, Australia, 3145.

The is scheduled for Saturday 20th and Sunday 21st April 2013. Opening hours are 10.00 a.m. through to 4.00 pm. Admission will be $7.50, and children under 14 for free. Dogs on leads permitted. Disabled toilets on site. Ample parking. .

It's not only the gardens, the wetlands and forest that are an attraction. The miniature railway provides much enjoyment for young and old. The first stop for the train is at the first trestle bridge at "Crab Apple Pass"; the second bridge is "Fern Creek Gully" and the third bridge is "Laburnum Arch; the train passes Van Meuller Campsite on the left. The campsite set up with a tent and bush gear, nestles on creek flats where Baron Ferdinand von Mueller carried out botanical research studies back in the 1870s. The second stop is at a newly reconstructed bridge with beautiful rock formations, just recently completed by Melbourne Water.

When it comes to vintage, then don't miss out on popping into the Vintage Car Museum. It's not only the boys who appreciate beautiful cars such as these.

The recent family day, held on February 17th at Como Gardens, not to be confused with the National Trust Como House , which is situated at Williams Road, South Yarra, was a huge success. Visitors came from near and far.

Special guests at the Family Day were The Consul General of Japan, Mr Hidenoby Sobashima and his wife Mrs Chikako Sobashima, who took advantage of riding the Miniature Railway on its 650 metre circuit over three trestle bridges, and then walking through the rainforest where the Teddy Bears Picnic was held for the children. Mrs. ChikaKo Sobashima is the Club Patroness of Ikebana Melbourne Chapter 29 .

Ikebana displays and demonstrations were held for adults as well as children.

An exciting Taiko Japanese Drumming Display by Toshi Sakamoto and his students entertained the crowds. Following Toshi Sakamoto's performance, he held a drumming workshop for the many children who attended the Family Day.
