One of the restaurants in the shopping complex at St Clair, is a family-owned restaurant that specialises in serving cafe dishes, with some having a Mediterranean influence to them. Aside from sourcing the produce from South Australian producers, the coffee beans that are used in their coffee come from Five Senses Coffee, an Australian coffee producer.

While it was listed as a breakfast dish, Pesto Eggs can be ordered at any time of the day. The scrambled eggs had a fluffy texture and the basil pesto gave the dish a distinctive herby taste. The avocado and spinach complemented the egg nicely and the toast that the egg sat on was nicely toasted. This was our favourite dish from Common Grounds.

We liked the Nourish Bowl as it had a generous amount of grilled chicken, which was juicy and had a good amount of charred flavour. The baby spinach and roasted capsicum provided freshness, and the pearl couscous retained a bit of bite. Completing the dish was sweet potato and cashew mash which provided a bit of sweetness to the dish.

The serving size of the Lotus Cookie Caramel Pancakes was generous enough to be shared. The caramel sauce made the dish particularly moreish without being too sweet, and the crumbled Lotus biscuits added a wonderful crunchy element. Topping the pancakes was a scoop of vanilla ice cream which did a good job of balancing out the richer flavours.

The scrambled eggs that we chose for the Big Breaky were cooked just as well as that in the Pesto Eggs, and the bacon and sausages provided a delectable smoky taste to the dish. We also liked that the hash brown was crisp with a fluffy interior, and the mushrooms had a hint of a buttery flavour. Served with the dish was butter for spreading over the toast.

A good choice for those wanting something healthier, the grilled chicken in the Healthy Hen Burger was done as well as that in the Nourish Bowl. However, we did wish that there were more of it. Caramelised onions imparted a hint of smokiness. This burger was notable for the use of a sweet potato sauce that gave it a distinctive sweet and earthy flavour. Their burgers came with chips, though they were a bit soggy during our visit.

The portion size of the Chicken Schnitzel was very generous. The flesh of the schnitzel was cooked just right, with the crumb coating acting as a good contrast. Aside from chips and a salad dressed in a delectable tangy dressing, mushroom sauce was also served with the dish.

Common Grounds also offered a selection of cakes which can be enjoyed as a dessert or as a snack. The Carrot Cake that we ordered was very moist and included nuts for some crunch. The cake was iced with a delicious cream cheese frosting which was not too sweet.

Customers that visit between 11.30am and 3pm can enjoy a $12 lunch special in which they can choose from one of six sandwiches with a bread of their choice. There is also the option to add a side for an extra cost. Parking is not an issue as the carpark in front of the cafe offers plenty of off-street parking lots.
