Common Grounds Café is located at the end of a quiet stretch of shops in the Tuggeranong suburb of Gowrie. As a Tuggeranong resident myself, I feel there is a shortage of modern and funky breakfast cafes in the area and it seems I am not alone. Since opening in 2013 this enjoyable café is now doing a roaring trade with locals for breakfasts in particular, with people waiting for tables to be free on weekends.

I decided to visit with my daughter at 11am on a weekday, thinking it may be quieter time to visit, however it was still a busy café with a full carpark. Tradies were pulling up for coffee and friends were gathering outside.

As you walk in you are met with this stunning mural, comfortable rustic furniture, amazing smells from the kitchen and a feeling of ease and familiarity. The door is positioned so you walk into the café and see behind the counter, so you get to see a little of "behind the scenes" of how this busy café is run.

It is a modern and comfortable café that would easily fit into any city café strip.

Outside there are several tables in the shaded courtyard and this is where we found our table for two. Although the views from this courtyard are of the bus stop and local garages, you don't notice as it is just a peaceful place to relax under the speckled light through the shaded roof. With friends happily chatting together on nearby tables and families with highchairs, everyone is just sitting back and enjoying this friendly café.

This will be a beautifully cool place to sit in Summer under the full shade and in the cooler months they have large outdoor heaters to sit under. If these don't warm you up on a brisk Spring morning, I don't know what will.

I soon realised why it was so busy when I saw on the menu that Breakfast finished at 11:15am and we arrived at the tail end of it. My daughter chose the Toasted Croissant with jam and butter, while I picked the Bacon and Egg Roll with swiss cheese. Despite how busy it was, the food and coffee were delivered quickly and with a smile.

Although on the other side of the table the Croissant was dissected and jam spread everywhere, my Bacon and Egg roll was delicious - the soft brioche bun in particular.

As with most café visits with a four year old, once the sugar straws have been played with and the food devoured, it was time to go. If you visit with kids there is a stack of highchairs to utilise and a large playground across the road to wear off some energy afterwards.

I can see why Common Ground Café has been a hit with locals in Tuggeranong and beyond. With good food, fun décor, relaxed vibe and lovely service, it is a café where you walk out content and look forward to the next visit.
