Commissary is a breakfast and brunch restaurant located in Rose Park, less than 10 minutes drive from the city centre. It is located on the busy strip of Fullerton road overlooking the Victoria Parklands.
This restaurant is well priced and stylish and provides a perfect spot for breakfast and brunch with healthy, gluten-free, and vegan options. If you have a sweet tooth there is a good variety of sweet treats also.
I finally visited this place and was surprised when I found out where it was because I have driven past it so many times, but never took any notice. It looks like its part of the hotel rooms above.
Inside is opulent and open with a perfect combination of light wooden floorboards and big plants. There is comfy booth seating stretched across a beautiful dark wood wall and padded seating with wooden tables spread across the room and against the large clean windows which bathe the room with sunlight.
Having been here twice now, I understand why the restaurant is so popular. You are greeted by the friendly staff as soon as you walk in and taken to a table with a menu. They have table service and staff were very prompt and fast. You can sit and enjoy the sunlight with outdoor seating on the dog-friendly wooden deck.
I was taking notice at the food that was being delivered to the tables around us. They all were having salads and healthy options, so this told me this was the perfect place for a light lunch on a lunch break or just to come in for a takeaway coffee.
The menu offers a wide variety of options, for breakfast they have omelettes, eggs on sourdough, smashed avocado or you can build your own army with extras such as bacon, chorizo, mushrooms, tomato, pulled pork, eggs, asparagus, toast, smashed avocado, halloumi and more. For a sweet breakfast, they have pancakes, French toast and waffles. I was intrigued by the waffle surprise that you can order if you're brave. I saw some of these on Instagram which looked amazing but I just decided to go for what I knew I liked. For a healthy breakfast, they have mixed seasonal fruit bowls, smoothie bowls and toasted muesli bowls. If you are after more of a lunch meal they have salads, wraps, burgers, Atlantic salmon, fettuccini ragu, and salt and pepper calamari.
I couldn't go past the sugary breakfasts and ordered something sweet both times I have been here. The first time we came here we got the red velvet waffles and a smoothie bowl. The waffles came with strawberries, blueberries, passionfruit, vanilla bean cream and cream cheese drizzle. The smoothie bowl came with acai, banana, mint, coconut milk, chia seeds, nuts, seasonal fruit and muesli. We also ordered a side of bacon.
On our most recent visit, we got the pancakes with vanilla ice-cream, kiwi fruit, strawberries, banana with an orange and cinnamon infused maple and the red velvet waffles, The second time I ordered these they unfortunately didn't have any, so I got offered a Belgium waffle with the same toppings.
With such a big juice menu, I could not decide so I was lucky enough to be able to mix and match my own juice. My sister, who was dining with me, tried the latte and described it as 'seriously good coffee'. They also have smoothies, milkshakes, frappes, soft drinks, and alcoholic options.
The food comes out quickly and is presented beautifully! I must come back and try a lot more on the menu. If you're not up for a meal, enjoy a coffee and a small macaron, muffin or a vegan, gluten-free ball.
I think this is an amazing restaurant for early morning breakfast or brunch and a good option for people who are vegans, vegetarians or gluten-free.
