Located on Commercial Road in Port Adelaide, Commercial Hotel is a popular place with the locals, where you can enjoy a good range of pub food. Along with their main menu, the hotel also offers specials based on family recipes from the hotel staff.

One of the staff specials available during our visit, the chicken filling of the Simones Pot Pie was not gluggy and had a good amount of flavour. Extra texture was provided by the vegetables and the ‘lid’ of puff pastry was crisp and flaky. Accompanying it was deep-fried bread sticks, which provided something different from the usual chips.

Their All Day Big Breaky provided a generous feast. While the fried eggs were a bit overcooked for our tastes, the sausage was cooked just right and the bacon had a delectable smoky taste. The hash brown was light and fluffy and the baked beans had a hint of buttery flavour. Completing the dish was buttered slices of toast and hollandaise sauce to enjoy with the ingredients.

The Hot Dog with the Lot was notably presented in a fashion resembling an open-face sandwich. The sausage was the same as the one used in the All Day Big Breaky, and was complemented nicely by cubes of bacon. Mustard added a sharp taste to the dish, which was balanced by the tomato sauce. Accompanying the hot dog was a serving of chips cooked to golden-brown.

The decor of the hotel gave it a rustic feel, and diners have the choice of indoor or outdoor seating. Weekly events are held at the hotel, such as live music at the bistro on Friday nights and Saturday Karaoke Nights.
