Charles de Gaulle once said "Deep down, my only international rival is Tintin". Such is the power and influence of comic characters.

If your childhood (and beyond) has been influenced by comics and graphic novels, here's something you won't want to miss. You're invited to celebrate the best of local comic culture with a week full of FREE events being held across Sydney libraries from 28 September to October 2015.

is a unique opportunity to jump into the wonderful world of make-believe spun from comics, video games, animated shorts and feature films, shaped by some of Australia's most creative minds.

Events being held throughout the week include Illustrated Story Ideas, Thomas Campi Exhibition, a Making Comics Competition, Learn to Play Superhero Games, Comics Labs, Super Fantasy Trivia Night and more.

A highlight of the week-long celebration will be the opening event celebrating the launch of Bruce Mutard's art exhibition entitled An ANZAC Myth at Liverpool City Library on 28 September. Listen to Bruce as he shares 26 years of experience writing, drawing, producing and publishing comics and graphic novels. His 4 graphic novels (The Sacrifice, The Silence, A Mind of Love and The Bunker) are favourites of his wide fan base. Bruce has also enjoyed success with short comic stories and he also publishes other creators' comics under his own imprint, Fablaux.

This is your chance to meet and mingle with talented local comics, participate in workshops, enjoy the exhibitions, listen to talks and look at the beautiful drawings in the artists' alleys.

These events are scheduled across 6 Sydney libraries:

  • Ashfield
  • Canterbury
  • Canada Bay
  • Liverpool
  • Marrickville
  • Sutherland.

  • More information about all events and venues, including bookings and enquiries, can be found on the event website or on the event's Facebook page .
    .
promises to take you back to your childhood and inspire a new generation of comic fans.

In the words of Grant Morrison, "Comics begin with a guy, with a pencil and an imagination, or a guy at his word processor, and after that anything can happen."
