If you love the outdoors, a bit of adventure and fun, come along to the Come & Try Sailing weekend at the Royal South Australian Yacht Squadron (RSAYS) on 14-15 September 2019 for a great introduction to sailing and where you will get to know the ropes and lots more.The weekend is an opportunity for people of all backgrounds, ages and abilities to find out how fun, safe, accessible and affordable sailing is. Discover first-hand why it appeals to millions of people around the world – the thrill of the water and the wind in your hair.
Participants are divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced groups and matched with experienced skippers and mentors on a keelboat. In a relaxed and friendly atmosphere, you will get to know your way around a boat, try out different crew positions, gain new skills and confidence or develop the ones that you have. And following each day's sail, there is the opportunity to catch up with other participants for some apres-sail with complimentary drinks and nibbles, and a chance to consolidate some of your learning. The Come & Try Sailing weekend has been run successively for ten years and has introduced hundreds of people to the thrill of boating under sail, many of whom have gone on to be further involved in the RSAYS or other Clubs. The RSAYS, established in 1869, is based on the Port River in Outer Harbor and celebrates its 150th Birthday this year! It has a large member base consisting of many experienced sailors, and its foundation encourages and supports junior and women's sailing. It has a busy schedule of racing, cruising, fishing and social activities. You don't need to own a boat to be involved in sailing at the Squadron!
