Most musicals are based on fiction rather than fact but not with Come From Away, reopening at the Capitol Theatre from 20 October to 28 November 2021.

Written by the Canadian married writing team of Irene Sankoff and David Hein, it's the true story of Operation Yellow Ribbon and how Gander, the small Newfoundland town 'on the edge of the world' opened their hearts and homes when 38 aeroplanes holding 6,579 passengers were redirected when American airspace was shut down, the first time in history due to 9/11.

You may think a musical based around the midst of tragedy is rather unusual but it showcases the capacity of human kindness. When you first enter the theatre, you're struck with how simple the set is with only 12 chairs and two tables.

The 12 actors support each other as it tells the story as one, a true ensemble. All actors work together as they each play locals and come from awayers changing from one accent and character.

The cast included Zoe Gertz, Manon Gunderson-Briggs, Douglas Hansell, Kat Harrison, Joe Kosky, Phillip Lowe, Joseph Naim, Emma Powell, Katrina Retallick, Teddy Trice, Gene Weygandt, Dan'yelle Williamson, Jordan Barbour, Kaya Byrne, Noni McCallum, Kathleen Moore, Michael Lee Porter, Ash Roussety, Alana Tranter and Jasmine Vaughns.

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or valid written medical exemption will be required to enter the venue for all patrons 16 and over. Performances will be running at 75% audience capacity until further advice from the NSW Government.

Come From Away, the Tony® and Olivier Award-winning musical of Best Musical returns to the Capitol Theatre from 20 October to 28 November 2021.
