This technique of colouring hair allows you to have whatever colour you choose in your hair and then to wash it out in just one wash. These colours will work on both light and dark hair.

The process of applying the colour to the hair is relatively simple, but may be time consuming depending on the amount of hair a person wishes to colour.

The first step is to wet the section of hair that you wish to colour, this can be done with a spray bottle, or by dipping that section of hair in water.

Then it is as easy as taking the soft pastel in your hand and colouring in the section of hair in a downwards motion. It is a good idea to colour both sides of the piece of hair so that it is fully covered with the colour. Another useful tip is to dip one side of the piece of pastel into water as well to make the colour more intense.

Once the strand of hair is coloured, you can then move on to another strand of hair, or colour just the tips of your hair for a dip dyed look. The colour can also be changed halfway through a strand of hair so that it fades into another colour. The colour can be applied in any way to achieve the specific look you are after, the possibilities are endless.

This may get messy so wear an old top, or a towel around your shoulders in case any colour runs. It may also be a good idea to wear gloves when applying the colour as it will get on your hands, however it will easily wash off with water. Try not to brush the hair too much once the colour has been applied because you may completely brush out the colour.

To seal the colour in, blow dry the coloured pieces of hair and use hair spray. To lock in the colour even more a hair straightner or curler can be used.

Other colour ideas include colouring a single strand of hair in a pony tail or bun, colouring underneath a fringe, or using natural colours like brown and gold so that the colours look like natural highlights.

After following this simple technique of hair chalking you will be ready to flaunt your newly coloured hair and you can even fool your friends into thinking it is permanent.
