Wouldn't you like to start your summer with a splash of colour? The long-awaited season surely needs a party. The Colour Run Love Tour does more than that to celebrate, it is a rave.

Most participants must have gone home saying 'I had the best time at this event.' The smiles on faces and laughter on lips the whole way through the 5KM course are a testament.

Details
The Colour Run Love tour was held on Sunday November 24 at Flemington Racecourse. This fun-run took the fun part of the title seriously. Every moment was injected with life, originality and most importantly, encouragement.

The event commenced at 8.30am but there was no pressure to be on time as runners and walkers were released in waves. Walking was the dominant pace. There was plenty of time out to take selfies and to take in the beautiful view. The dominant question on one's mind was 'Where else would I want to be then here on a gorgeous Sunday morning?' The weather sparkled for the event. Although we were all wrapped and blasted in a November arctic breeze, it had lost its winter edge and the sun was delightfully oven warm.

Important Knowledge
Getting dropped off at the run conveniently involved walking into the racecourse from a concourse on the road. This spot was about 650 metres or so from the festival and the start line. Having a supportive driver who could drop you to walk was of especial help. Driving in and parking looked a nightmare and would cost you $20.

Arrival and Pickup
The racecourse is a fair walk from the station but a tram stop near the concourse where drivers could drop runners off and many of the crowds took this option walking back wearily to colour their way across Melbourne home.

Takeaway Colour
The Colour Run Love Tour allows you to take the colour with you, which is created by airborne powder. You are doused in at several points along the way. There is an option to have it blasted off at the end with air. The kid in me was rather uninterested in the practicality of it dusting off on car seats. I just wanted to keep the artists canvas of amber rose red and blue jazzing up my blue tights. I was glad I was wearing stockings and jackets as my mum said her bare skin was a tad irritated by the paint.

The Paint
There was a warning about the powder that it could irritate those with asthma. The advice was to cover one's mouth and face or not risk reaction. It actually wasn't too hard to go through a paint station without getting too much in one's system. I, unlike, my mum was into being immersed.

Foam
There was also a foam station which was at a rather chilly point of the course but it was such a welcome surprise watching the suds glitter in the morning air. There were many kids and kids with heart whirling around here.

Freebies and Merchandise
You got a t-shirt with your entry fee and lots of giveaways including a Krispy Creme donut that was all waiting to be gobbled up at the end. There was also merchandise including a colourful tutu. For $15, you could invest in my idea of the best element on the course. Everyone looked absolutely delightful in their tutu and I think it boosted happiness by ten degrees. Other clothes on offer were different varieties of t-shirts but it was possible to alter the standard top to specification. There were plenty of twists and ties and tucks. The material was really soft and the splash of colour in the design ensured it would carry the happiness of the day away in the seams. In the race pack, was a wonderful headband and plenty to accessorise with.

Any pace rewarded
You could run, walk, skip or dance to your heart's content. There were warmups and a heap of high fives. Fitness was a breeze here. Five km was swallowed up by the party and you arrived at achievement and a medal before you knew it.

The Philosophy
The mission at the Colour Run is to bring people together and make the world a happier, healthier place. This was well achieved.

This untimed event is a festival from start to finish. There is plenty of rewards but most of them come within the activity itself, promoting how easy living more of life can be.

To date, the event has donated more than five million to charity - their heart is in the right place. Hearts are strengthened here. "By creating a race that's more about the memories you make than your mile-per-minute, we make running accessible to everyone, no matter their experience level or ability."
