Blackheath was once home to the European settlers in Australia, named by Governor Lachlan Macquarie in 1815 after the colour of the native shrubbery in the area. It is now home to the Hydro Majestic, the fabulous Victory Theatre Antique Centre and the little known, yet amazing Colliers Crystals.

After visiting the Victory Theatre, and walking around Blackheath, I turned into the street entrance of Colliers Arcade. Towards the back, by the arcades exit, was a little store with tables displaying incense, books, figurines, and little bowls of tiny crystals sparking my curiosity. On the inside, the display cabinets showed beautiful crystals, carved crystal statues, crystal eggs, geodes, wands and jewellery. The displays of rings on the wall were calling out to me. The clear quartz, which is my favourite for those that know me and may be reading, just covered the store.

Statues of Buddha and Tibetan singing bowls were also being sold at very reasonable prices. There were baskets and boxes filled with crystals. Little children, boys and girls, were walking in the store to buy gifts for themselves and each other. The lady behind the counter was giving the children a special stone to choose for free. It was so obvious that she loved where she was and what she does.

The beautiful quartz pendants were just spectacular, they ranged from rose, clear, and smoky quartz to amethyst, citrine, azurite, agate and so much more. The moonstone is also one to take note of, it had such a beautiful haze to it and I wanted it.

Christmas presents are what had come to my mind. I knew that I had to buy something pretty for mum, gran and my mother in law. It was the perfect place to buy a personal and loved gift.

My husband's niece is a crystal lover and the carved rose quartz heart would be perfect for a little girl, the list was endless. I had to get something for myself as well, it wouldn't be right to be completely selfless; after all, charity does begin in the home.

The lady behind the counter happened to be the owner, Lynda Collier. After chatting with her, I found her to be very friendly and very personable. She told me that Colliers Crystals has been in existence for around 20 years. The store belonged to her mother where she had helped her before running it for her in the mid-1990's and officially taking over in the year 2000. Before Lynda's mother bought this beautiful part of Blackheath that sits just off Govetts Leap Road, it had been a gift shop from the 1930's until it was sold to the Colliers.

Lynda also conducts Crystal Classes and Crystal Healing sessions as she has trained with The Australasian Crystal Healing Training Centre, and The Karyna Centre for Transformation.

Looking past the front counter, just above Lynda's head were a few posters of the Dalai Lama, it was quite clear that this beautiful lady wanted to capture peace, love and harmony in her store.

As I stood back and watched her, she allowed her customers to hold the crystals and feel them, she said to let the piece choose you. Stepping back, she let me go through the emotions of each piece that I was drawn to.

Shelf after shelf of gems, candles and reading material, I was suddenly overwhelmed and didn't know what to buy, it was like giving me an empty parking lot and telling me to choose a spot - not good.

I did buy myself some smoky quartz dangling drop earrings; that went perfectly with the pendant and ring that were glaring at me. I also purchased the Crystal Bible, a book that outlines the crystals' healing properties. With my new jewellery gift wrapped in a pretty box and ribbon, I left the store very happy and very intrigued. It was all extremely interesting to me and something I felt myself wanting delve into.
