Coffee and Community
Those serious about a good cup of coffee need look no further than a trip to Collective Coffee. This splendid cafe is staffed by serious coffee lovers and focuses on providing quality drinks. The cafe itself is small, but the friendliness of the staff and community feel make it welcoming and a delight to visit.
The cafe is located inside The Two Twenty building on 20th Street. This innovative building concept is a shared work space for entrepreneurs, artists, innovators, and anyone seeking an alternative work space environment.
Collective Coffee is located in the Riversdale Business District. Riversdale is a core neighbourhood and lower income area. However, the area has undergone some positive development in recent years. Redevelopment of parts of 20th Street have occurred and the addition of places like The Two Twenty have brought quality and business to the area. While so far the gentrification is an improvement, poverty and crime are never too far away. Improvement will be long term and require generational shifts, but the commitment of the social entrepreneurs eager to revitalise this interesting and historic neighbourhood benefits the city and its citizens.
