Collecting succulents and cacti can be like a treasure hunt. You could drive around Perth and regional areas, sipping coffee or tea at many of the outlets, and find some wonderful items for your garden.

If you do not have "green fingers", succulents are the way to go as they take little care and water, love our harsh heat and often produce delightful flowers.

There are many places you can buy succulents and these include:

BUNNINGS - who have a special section for them. They are not the cheapest however get good stock in regularly.

All Bunnings stores seem to carry a small range of cacti and a larger range of succulents.

This hobby can be very expensive but is so rewarding when you see a new flower or a spurt of growth on these plants.

There are also several social media sites, the best of which is perhaps the following:

Succulents and Cacti Western Australia buy/swap/sell/show, which is on Facebook, and is a closed group, which means you need to apply to join. Members on the group can buy, sell or trade.

Some of the group members also offer advice, identify plants if you do not know what they are, and members prices are usually cheaper than a retail shop - also a great way to make new friends!

There are more, and most nurseries have some sort of a range of both these interesting plants.

You can use your imagination to a huge degree and some of the creations I have made, are shown below. Most of these have only just been planted and will look their best in about 6 months when the winter is over, and the warm sun hits them.

This is something that is only limited to your imagination, as some people make and paint their own pots, use decoupage on cheap bowls bought from op shops, and invent new ideas such as the "head pot". When this plant grows, it will hang down and look like a head of flowing, long hair!

This one was also made from items bought cheaply at an op shop and the bowl and the head statue were separate buys.

I do not know many of the names, and these ones would be great in a head pot!

Another great idea is to buy old fish bowls in various sizes and make a terrarium.

You can layer the bowls to make an attractive creation out of two or three bowls, and if you break these bowls, they also look great layered in with the broken pieces.
