The 7-time Grammy award winning UK band are taking their Mylo Xyloto tour to Melbourne in November this year. Coldplay are not strangers to Australia, having made a notable appearance during last year's Splendour in the Grass festival as well as selling out shows for their 2009 Viva La Vida tour. But hey, we sure aren't complaining! The party goes off at Etihad Stadium, assuring a big spectacle from one of the best live performers in the world, reiterated by Michael Chugg, Executive Chairman of Chugg's Entertainment, who states, "it's visually spectacular and they sound better than ever." Most recently winning 4 Billboard Awards for Mylo Xyloto, the best selling rock album in the UK for 2011, it is safe to say Coldplay are currently one of the must see bands in the world.
Their success in the music industry is unfathomable, selling more than 55 million records, and being nominated for countless awards. Grammys, Brit, MTV, you name it!
Although a rock band, you will be severely surprised if you were expecting to get your emotion on with some hardcore guitar solos and throat-wrenching vocals. Coldplay's musical style is alternative rock, with the band experimenting with different perspectives of the genre throughout their many albums. Martin's falsetto regularly conveys the beautiful emotion behind each lyric, encouraging the comparison of the band with the likes of legendary bands, U2 and Radiohead.
So how did this quartet from London become one of the most loved bands in the world?
Let's go back to the start
Lead singer, Chris Martin, formed the band along with University friends, Jonny Buckland, Will Champion and Guy Berryman. As a group they experimented with a variety of band names, first Pectoralz, and then Starfish, before thankfully deciding on Coldplay in 1998.
Their breakthrough single, Yellow, in 2000, put them on the map and they've been making their mark ever since. Their albums, Parachutes, A Rush of Blood to the Head, X & Y and Viva La Vida and Death and All His Friends proceed to receive positive reviews and popularity amongst the public. Their current studio album, Mylo Xyloto, has produced best selling single, Paradise, and is what we are all here for!
Coldplay's Mylo Xyloto tour finishes off in Australia, with Aussie band, The Temper Trap and The Pierce's supporting them throughout the Australasian leg.
