C.A.T. Splash Coffee and Tea Expo, Sunday October 19th 2014
For worshippers and lovers of specialty coffee and tea, this expo is a chance to immerse yourself in the sights, sounds and smells of coffee and tea.
The expo is dedicated to tea and coffee and was originally going to be a modest showcase of the leaf and bean. It is now being promoted as the "Biggest, bestest and baddest" coffee and tea festival in regional Victoria.
This is Geelong's very first Coffee and Tea Expo. The expo is associated with the Australian Specialty Coffee Association (ACSA) which is Australia's governing coffee body.
There is a lot to see and do on the day. You can see Victoria's largest display of retro coffee machines. The A.C.S.A. regional barista finals will be held on the day, with leading baristas going head to head in this competition. If you are a tea connoisseur you can attend master tea workshops.
There will also be coffee roasting, pour overs and demonstrations, tea masterclasses, and a Chinese tea ceremony, coffee and beer tasting, a street art competition and a public Latte Art Smackdown (as part of the Barista Competition).
[BREAK]
There are Mad Hatter Tea Parties being held during the day, at set times. Entry to the whole event is $15.00, and attending a Mad Hatter Tea Party will cost an extra $10.00. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased through GPAC. Learn how to make the perfect coffee at home at the Coffee and Tea Expo. Join the coffee, cheese and wine pairing explosion. Who would like to learn how to pair coffee, cheese and wine at your next dinner party? I know I would! All this and more in one day at one location!
The C.A.T. Splash name is a cheeky moniker, in response to the Melbourne International Coffee Expo, more simply known as M.I.C.E.
The organiser of the C.A.T. event, Pam Jewson, has run the Golden Plate awards for the last 12 years. Pam said that coffee has become such a big part of the Golden Plate awards, and she thought "why can't Geelong do something like M.I.C.E.?"
The Regional Barista Championships have also been run for the past couple of years, so Pam thought "we could do something bigger and bolder with it."
Some of the local brewers taking part in the Expo are Coffee Cartel, The Coffee Man (Moolap), Otway Chai, Jan Juc micro roastery, Ocean Grind and Sticks and Grace Cafe.
Clyde Park vineyard will provide a "Pop Up Party" Catering Service at the C.A.T. Expo on Sunday October 19th, offering wine tastings, sales and from their mobile woodfired oven, they will be cooking some incredible Clyde Park pizzas.
The Coffee and Tea Expo (C.A.T. Splash) will be held in Geelong on Sunday October 19th, an all day event, with all profits going to Crohn's and Colitis Australia. All monies made on the day, through ticket sales, donations and any other income generated will be donated to C.C.A. This is going to be a really successful event for Geelong, and it will raise awareness of health, and raise money for the Crohn's and Colitis Australia group.

How to get there
The factory is accessible from the Separation St Bridge (left turn off the bridge, coming from Melbourne, then right turn), or you can turn left at the Norlane Hotel and then right into Corio Quay Road, and follow Corio Quay Road until you find Henderson's on your left, before rejoining Melbourne Road. If you live in Geelong you've probably seen the Coffee and Tea Expo sign up on the Henderson's building already. Or you can view the Map below.
On a Personal Note
My daughter Tamika, who works at Sticks and Grace restaurant, in Pakington Street, Geelong West, is an entrant in the Barista Competition. Good Luck Tamika!
